London - Multicultural Studies Program
London - Multiculturalism and GlobalizationThroughout history London has embraced every race and religion and has served as a magnet to foreign traders, offering a place of refuge for those fleeing persecution. As the capital of an empire that once spanned the globe, London has continually absorbed great numbers of immigrants. The result is a truly multi-ethnic, integrated community where a variety of cultures live side by side.

The Multiculturalism and the Global Dimension Seminar introduces students to the rich blend of cultures that make up this historically cosmopolitan city. Writing forms an integral part of the seminar and students produce original work that may be descriptive or creative. They also "adopt" a particular neighborhood, conducting interviews with
immigrant residents and nationals and consider the effects of globalism.

britishmuseum.jpgLexia's program in London is supported by Academic Solutions, located in the study centre of Florida State University in Bloomsbury, near the University of London and the British Museum. Proximity to the University of London affords students the opportunity to participate in the activities of the Student Union and use of the university's reference library. Students also have access to the excellent reference library of the British Museum.

Housing
lexialondonhousing02.jpgStudents live in self-catering flats situated in the heart of Bloomsbury. The flats are recently refurbished and centrally located in one of London’s most famous Georgian streets where Charles Dickens and his literary contemporaries spent much of their time. It is an ideal location for participants to integrate into the local community.
