Lexia, Your School and Financial Aid
The best source of financial aid information is a student's home institution. It is the participant's responsibility to understand the requirements and the deadlines of the home institution regarding all financial aid issues.

Students should discuss specific plans with study abroad advisors and financial aid counselors well in advance of the study abroad semester or academic year. The home institution financial aid office can tell students what types of aid they will permit them to use for the Lexia program, as well as how to transfer financial aid. In many cases it will be possible for students to transfer much or all of their federal (and some state) aid to the Lexia program.

Program Dates and Fees

Program Fees vary, depending upon the host country and program session. Fees are generally lower in cost than a semester, academic year or summer session at a private college in the United States, and they include all tuition and fees, housing costs throughout the program, all scheduled field trips and related fares, health insurance, an official Western Washington University transcript, an International Student Identity Card and other direct program expenses.

The program fees do not include travel expenses from the student's home to the program site, local transportation, food (some programs do include partial board), pre-program immunizations, books, personal expenses (such as passport or visa fees), additional airline fees due to alteration of plans after arrangements have been made or independent travel while abroad.

State and Federal Financial Aid
Students participating in Lexia programs who qualify for US state and/or federal financial aid may generally use this aid to cover the cost of the Lexia program and their international airfare, provided that the aid is processed by their US home institution and the credits for the program go toward a degree.

However, be aware that policies on federal and state financial aid transfer are set by your home institution. It is your responsibility to secure your own financial aid transfer. Western Washington University cannot process financial aid for Lexia students, unless you are matriculated (working toward a degree) at WWU.

If your home institution requires that a "consortium agreement" be signed in order to process your financial aid, Lexia, in collaboration with Western Washington University, can sign this agreement. We recommend that you start the financial aid process early, as it can require several weeks to complete. If you do not have a US home institution at which you ar  seeking a degree, and it is not possible for you to obtain state or federal financial aid, then you should consider banks and other sources for potential loans.
