In a little over an hour, students can reach the original Bauhaus educational complex. Built in 1925, the Bauhaus school in Dessau was a center of modern 20th century architecture as well as the decorative arts. Bauhaus style gained international renown even after the National Socialists closed down the school. Students take part in a guided tour and explore the city with architect Cristiana da Silva, our architecture instructor and internship coordinator. We have the opportunity to stay overnight in the youth hostel, close to the Bauhaus Masters’ Houses, and spend the evening with local high school students. Once back in Berlin, students can visit a number of Bauhaus apartment buildings and the Bauhaus Museum, as well as private and multi-family houses by Mies van der Rohe and Bruno Taut.
