Application Process

Before applying, students should read these application instructions and the program description and specific course curriculum for the site to which they are applying.

Attention Non-US Students

As indicated below, we require that a small fee be submitted with each application. Unfortunately we are unable to accept non-US based credit cards, and therefore must ask students to apply by mail if they do not have a credit card with a US billing address.

Admissions Requirements

Students applying for Lexia programs must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enthusiastic about embarking on an international experience
  • Have a cumulative Grade Point Average of B- or above in their major field of study
  • Have at least sophomore standing at an undergraduate institution by the program start date, or be pursuing a graduate degree

Students who have not yet completed one year of college-level courses may also apply, and their applications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Some prior knowledge of the language of the host country is recommended, but not required. The exception is the Buenos Aires Latin American Studies program, which requires intermediate or advanced knowledge of Spanish.

Application Deadlines

  • Summer Session: April 15
  • Fall Semester: June 15
  • Academic Year: June 15

Application Procedure and Notification

The completed application for enrollment includes:

  • Registration with our application software
  • Two short essays
  • $55 non-refundable application fee
  • Three recommendations, including one from the student's Study Abroad Advisor
  • Official transcripts with seals from each college or university attended

Students may submit a partial application and have recommendation letters or transcripts sent directly by the recommender or university. However, applications will not be reviewed until all pieces listed above have been received. Lexia will notify applicants of missing pieces, but it is ultimately students' responsibility to make sure that all supporting materials are received and forms are complete and returned to Lexia by the application deadline.

Once all the materials have been received, the application will be sent to the Admissions Committee for review. The Admissions Committee reviews applications on a rolling admissions basis. We encourage students to apply as soon as possible to determine qualification and to ensure there is space available in the program of choice. Students will be notified of admissions decisions via email within two weeks of submitting all application materials.

Upon admittance to a Lexia program, students will receive an acceptance packet which includes:

  • Welcome letter from the Dean
  • Lexia Student Guide for the program site
  • Access to pre-departure forms online
  • Visa information (if applicable)

The Lexia Student Guide includes information about the academic program, logistical details, finances, housing, travel, and packing suggestions.

Late applications are considered on an individual basis (depending on available space at the requested program site).

Payment Schedule

Upon acceptance, a $300 deposit will be required to hold the individual's place in the program. The deposit will be applied to the total program fee. A schedule of fee payments will also be sent to each participant, and/or to the designated payee. Fee payments may be made by personal check or money order in US Dollars payable to 'Lexia International' or by VISA or MasterCard.

The remainder of Program Fee Balance is due in two installments before the program begins. The Fee Schedule and Payment Information sheet will be sent to the billing address indicated on the application upon acceptance.
